Savoury Recipes             

 Walnut Patties

  • 1 cup finely cut chopped walnuts
  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 1 large onion - grated
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup soya milk
  • 1 tin tomato soup
  1. Mix all ingredients well. Fry as small patties until brown on both sides.
  2. Place in simmering tomato soup for 10-15 mins. Enjoy


Mock Chicken

  • 2 cups cooked mararoni
  • 1/2 teas mixed herbs
  • 1 tab olive oil
  • 2 eggs or 2 teas egg replacer
  • 1 tab parsley - finely chopped
  • pinch salt
  • 1 cup fresh breadcrumbs soaked in 1 cup soya milk for 5 mins
  • 2 good tabs peanut paste - thinned with little hot water
  • 1 large onion - grated
  1. Mix all ingredients together. Pour into greased dish and bake for 1 hour at 180deg.C
  2. Can also be microwaved for 15 mins.


Lentil Loaf

  • 1 & 1/2 cups brown lentils
  • 2 large onions - chopped finely
  • 2 tabs food yeast flakes - optional
  • pinch salt
  • 4 & 1/2 cups boiling water
  • 2-3 cloves garlic
  • 2 tabs soya sauce
  • 3/4 teas sage
  1. Whiz dry lentils in blender, then add to boiling water and stir with wire wisk
  2. Add onion, garlic and remaining ingredients
  3. Cook till thick - approx 20 mins
  4. Pour into sprayed loaf pan
  5. Refrigerate and chill well.


Nutmeat and Vegetable Pie

  • 1 can Sanitarium Nutmeat
  • 2 onions - chopped
  • 4 cups cabbage sliced
  • pinch salt
  • 1 tab tamari sauce or soya sauce
  • 1 heaped tab wholemeal flour blended with little water
  • 3 lg potatoes - dried
  • 2 diced carrots
  • 2 cups frozen peas
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teas marmite
  1. Place potatoe, onion and carrot in saucepan with water, sauce, and marmite, boil till tender
  2. Add cabbage and peas and steam 5 mins
  3. Add salt
  4. Pour into greased or sprayed casserole dish and cover with flakey pastry sheet.


Mushroom Stroganoff

  • 2 lg onions - chopped
  • 1 tab soya sauce
  • 1 can mushrooms in sauce
  • 1 teas curry powder
  • 1 red capsicum - finely chopped
  • 1 green capsicum - finely chopped
  • 1 can cream mushroom soup
  • 2 tabs olive oil
  • 2 tabs flaked almonds
  1. Saute onions, capsicum in the oil
  2. Add curry powder ans soya sauce, stir well
  3. Add mushroom and soup stir weel to combine ingredients
  4. Heat through, sprinke almonds over top
  5. Serve with steamed rice and garlic bread.


 Rice & Nutolene Patties

  • 3/4 cup cooked wholegrain rice
  • 1 egg
  • parsley or mixed herba
  • 1/2 can Sanitarium Nutolene
  • 1 packet french onion soup mix
  1. Cook rice and drain. Mask Nutolene and mix all ingredients including rice together.
  2. Form into patties and roll in breadcrumbs
  3. Brown on both sides in a little oil in frypan
  4. Suitable to freeze


Cream Cheese Balls

  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
  • 1 & 1/4 cups SAO biscuit crumbs
  • 1 large Philadelphia Cream Cheese
  • 1 can mushroom soup
  • 1/2 teas sage or mixed herbs
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 4 beaten eggs
  • 1 teas salt
  • 1 large onion - chopped
  • 2 & 1/2 cups water
  • 1 & 1/2 heaped dessertspoons gravox
  • small amount plain flour

Balls:

  1. In bowl add chopped onion and nuts
  2. Add softened cream cheese beaten eggs, herbs and salt
  3. Mix until cheese is well blended into all other ingredients - a blender can be used
  4. Add crumbs and mix well
  5. Let stand 30 mins to absorb moisture
  6. Take teaspoons of mixture, shape into balls, roll in flour and fry till golden brown
  7. Place ball in large casserole dish and cover with sauce

Sauce:

  1. Mix mushroom soup, water and gravox in saucepan over low heat to thicken
  2. Add sour cream and pour over balls
  3. Cook uncovered in moderate oven for 20 mins
  4. Serve with vegetables
  5. Make 30 balls


 

Vegetarian Hamburger

  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • pinch mixed herbs
  • 2 medium onions - grated
  • 1 carrot - grated
  • Chopped parsley
  • pinch salt
  • 1 clove garlic - finely chopped
  1. Beat eggs, add all other ingredients, mix well
  2. Into a hot oiled pan, drop dessertspoonfuls of mixture, brown on both sides
  3. Serve on bread roll with salad or make gravy of either tomato, mushroom or brown gravy
  4. Put hamburger into gravy and simmer for 1/2 hour in frypan
  5. Serve warn with vegetables


Gluten Stuffed Lamb (Daphne P)

  • 2 eggs
  • 1 and 1/2 cups milk & water - mixed
  • 1 teaspoon marmite - melted in a little water
  • 1 teaspoon yeast - optional
  • 1 teaspoon gravy powder
  • 1 dessertspoon soya sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon sweet basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon mixed herbs
  • Mix all this together well
  1. Sprinkle 1 and 1/2 cups gluten flour - mixing all the time - need to be a soft mixture
  2. Place 2 tablespoons oil in frypan
  3. place gluten mixture and brown lightly on one side
  4. Have ready breadcrumb seasoning and place in centre
  5. Fold gluten mixture over like an omelet and pour 2 cups hot water with 1 teas marmite
  6. Cover till water has nearly gone
  7. Serve sliced with vegetables

Optinal - instead of water & marmite

  1. 2 cups apricot nectar or
  2. Packet french onion soup


 Mock Chicken

  • 1 large tomato
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon grated cheese
  • 1 small onion
  • 1 teaspoon mixed herbs
  • pinch salt
  • 1 egg
  1. Fry chopped onion with butter in saucepan
  2. Add other ingredients except egg (tomato to be skinned & chopped)
  3. Cook till tender
  4. Beat egg & stir through but do not boil
  5. Use as filling for bread cases, sandwiches, on savoury biscuits & dip


 

Quick Quiche

  • 1 grated carrot
  • 3 eschallots chopped
  • chopped parsley to taste
  • 5 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon capsicum chopped
  • 1/2 cup grated cheese
  • 8 crushed sao biscuits
  • 1 & 1/2 cups milk
  1. Mix above ingredients in bowl leaving to the last addition the milk & eggs
  2. Place into a greased dish & bake in moderate oven til brown
  3. Additional add-ins: zucchini, spinach, asparagus, corn


Chinese Noodle Casserole

  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1 cup raw cashews
  • 1 packet crisp chinese noodles
  • 3 tabs soya sauce
  • 1 tin mushroom soup
  • 1/2 tin water
  • 1 tin water chestnuts (sliced)
  1. Mix altogether. Put into greased casserole dish with lid.
  2. Bake @ 3500 for 1 hour.


Pumpkin Soup

  • 2 cups pumpkin
  • 1 potato
  • 1 sweet potato
  • 1 carrot
  • 1 onion
  • 1 teas br sugar
  • 1/2 teas curry powder
  • 1/8 teas cinnamon - ground
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 and 1/2 cups water.           
  1. Add all ingredients tp large pot and bring to boil.
  2. Simmer for 1/2 hour.
  3. Mash or blend till smooth.
  4. Serve hot with dollop sour cream and chopped parsley.


French Toast

  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tabs milk - So Good
  • pinch salt and pepper
  • 4 slices thick toast bread
  • 1 tab butter
  1. Beat eggs and milk
  2. Melt butter add to mikk mixture
  3. Dip bread in mixture and fry in hot pan
  4. Serve warm with savoury
